businka, masha & penelopa - new inhabitants of polistovskyi nature reserve

Today we finish our series of stories about the autumn releases of the bear cubs. The last three of our 13 bears were released into wild: Masha, Businka and Penelope, who became the new inhabitants of the Polistovsky Nature Reserve.

Our way to the Reserve was not so long. But the release site could only be reached by special machines, on which we put the cages with the bears and drive to the release site across the reserve area. Masha, Businka and Penelope felt well on the way, but did not miss an opportunity to demonstrate their wild nature, thereby frightening the specialists of the reserve.

And so, we reached the place, the cages were ready to be opened, everyone froze in waiting ... Masha was the first, who ran out towards freedom, as well she expressed her dissatisfaction with being in the cage, hit the cage by paw as soon as we opened the gate. Businka and Penelope left the cages headlong after Masha. Just a few seconds, and our "graduates" disappeared in the forest ...
The young females were released in the protected area of the Polistovsky State Nature Reserve. "The cubs were released in a protected area with good forage and protective areas for bears. In future, we will try to monitor and track their movements. Our territory is under constant protection, and no facts of poaching were registered in the Reserve or nearby. We look forward to a good fate for these animals." - commented Nikolai Pavlovich Korablev, the director of the Reserve.

Outside the widnow now is a very frost and snow winter, and our "graduates" have been already hibernating in dens for a long time. After the releases, we constantly keep in touch with specialists from protected areas and regional ministries of ecology environmental protection, where the releases were held: no facts of approach to humans or human settlements were not registered, as well as the facts of their death.
Of course, we are always worried about the future fate of the cubs, and we hope that at least one of our graduates will be caught by camera traps. Although ... to look for a bear in the forest, that a needle in a haystack: according to monitoring results, bear cubs can leave the place of release for 100 km or more.

We would like to thank the management and specialists of the Polistovsky Reserve for their help in organizing the release of Masha, Businka and Penelope, as well as all those who took part in the fate of these three bears and the other 10 cubs that came to us this year.

Thanks to YOUR support, we saved and returned to the wild 13 cubs, whose life began with a tragedy - all of them became orphans without a chance for life.
