WAGGISH BEAR CUBS: the pictures from the life of Karel and Kuzya, Black and Moisey, Lala, Lyoha, Mirnyi and Nelushka
How difficult and tragically the lifes of the cubs were started
The baby bears are growing and developing very quickly. And now they do not look any more like teddy and clumsy cubs. Rather, teenagers - with disproportionately long paws, long neck, molting hair, long muzzle!

Do you remember how difficult and tragically their life was started?

Karel and Kuzya – the first cubs, we delivered to the Center January, 12 from the Republic of Karelia. At that moment they were only one week old. Examination of the cubs showed no damage or injuries. But, as the cubs spent some time in the den without a bear, we cannot exclude the risk of developing pneumonia.

Unfortunately, our assumptions concerning the development of pneumonia were confirmed. In just a few hours, from a lively, very active and loudly screaming teddy bear, Kuzya turned into a barely moving tiny body with practically no signs of life ...

Five days of continuous monitoring and treatment: during this time, Kuzya became a little better, then he felt into an even more critical condition, which did not give any hope for a successful outcome. Unfortunately, cubs left without a mother at this age often get pneumonia as a result of hypothermia, and it is almost impossible to save them... But not at this case! Kuzya, this little bear cub, showed a fantastic wish to live!

Unfortunately, the disease did not passed by the second teddy bear - Karel. At the first alarming symptoms, we began also to treat the cub. Fortunately, Karel was much easier to suffer from the disease and faster than Kuzya became better.
More about Karel and Kuzya

MOISEY - The lack of snow this year makes the winter shelters of bears in the forest more vulnerable, especially for mother bears with cubs. Snowless winter became the reason of the tragedy in the bear family of Moisey - a state inspector while the patrolling the forest area, bypassing a huge felled tree root, met a bear face to face. The bear tried to scare a person by making a couple of throws in his direction, but eventually ran away. There was a squeak in the den. The inspector decided to wait if the mother bear returns to her progeny? The female bear did not come back. And in the den squeaked the remaining bear cub. The inspector made the only right decision: he took the baby and quickly got to the warm place. Fortunatelly the cub was not so long alon in the den and escaped the hypothermia.

BLACK – was delivered to the Center at February 10 from the Pskov region: while logging a tractor driver saw a bear female, running away from the den. He immediately came to the den, in which he found one bear cub. Hopefully this cub also did not have the problem with the health as the tractor driver immediately pick him up from the den and kept him in warm. Due to the correct and immediate actions, people saved the baby from death.

LALA, LYOHA AND MIRNYI – we delivered the cubs at April 5 from the Kirov Region. Two brothers and a sister became orphaned, as Black, due to the logging: the logging machine destroyed the den, the female bear escaped, and three cubs were left in the den. The people did not pick up the cubs thinking the female will come back. But in two days she did not come back and they picked up the cubs. The tragedy in the bear family occurred in the spring, when the weather was not critically cold. That's why the cubs remained alive, but the starvation affected them – the cubs were emaciatedю

NELUSHKA – at the beginning of April a bear cub was found in the Novgorod district. Due to the threat of death of the animal, that was left without a mother at so young age, she was catch up and delivered to our Center.

The female bear cub named Nelushka had very low weight, but she had a very good appetite. In some time we joined her with the three cubs from the Kirov Region, and later with the other cubs from the Younger Group. At this age, the cubs are not very willing to accept newcomers, but, fortunately, the meeting was successful.

We reminded you the stories of the cubs from the Younger Group about how difficult their lives were started. And now, when we, along with you, can see how healthy and active they are, we feel happiness! And of course the grateful to our friends from the Wild Nature Hospital for assisting in rearing and treating the cubs, as well to all compassionate people for the support, thanks to which we will help the cubs to become free and to give them a chance to live the real life of a wild bear in the nature!
